Sydney Grammar School has occupied an enviable site on the city fringe for nearly 200 years. In 2009, work began on a unique project that would culminate in the creation of a spectacular performance venue cut deep into the sandstone bedrock five storeys underground. The John Vallance Hall, designed by Andrew Andersons of PTW architects, can accommodate 1500 people in a recital hall acoustically tuned for orchestral and choral music.
